Free For All Friday No 408 by Laurie

Now is about the time when people start thinking of the annual question: which planner/ diary inserts will you use next year? Or if you are like me, you are constantly trying to figure this out! Have you decided on your diary inserts yet?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to ask and/ or discuss anything ring-binder related!

  1. Oh boy. 'Personal' is my size, and come September 1st I had to start getting my inserts ready. One of the latest 'Big Things' in the US planner world is the Michael's Recollections planner binder and inserts. The pages lend themselves to tweaking, and tweak I did. By the way, they fit in my Original, tabs and all. Then I really threw a wrench in the cogs and bought an A5. We'll see how that goes. I'm definitely a ring girl though.

  2. Definitely trying various different things to get THIS year running smoothly before (hopefully) using the same system in 2017! Having been an A5 and Slimline (now reintroduced as Personal Slim) guy for very many years, I've successfully been using a Pocket Flex this summer. The big advantage is always having it with me! I really do prefer rings though and I'm currently about to experiment with the new Filofax Pocket Slim. I've always hankered after a Guildford Pocket Extra Slim, so the new Pocket Slim has got to be worth me trying!

    1. I am very curious, you own any of the new Pocket Slims? I have not seen any yet, but I am very interested in hearing more about them.

    3. Beautiful! Especially in Cognac :) filofax.de does not ship to Denmark, but I will wait. Not patiently, but I will wait.

    4. They're gorgeous and I'm afraid that they ship in Italy, so I need to take a decision!

  3. Sticking with an A5 for work using WO1P with notes plus the vertical year planner insert. (The planner stays at work and comes home with me on Fridays.) The rest of my life goes in a Personal. That one will be my usual WO2P with vertical year planner. Placed my order with Filofax over Labor Day weekend as I am already planning into 2017.

  4. I will use my weekly format in my Franklin pocket binder or a cover of the same height without rings or strings. I do not consider another layout because my format is original.

  5. I have a few old covers without rings or strings. I am using a leather one (168 x 106 mm. or 6.58 x 4.2") instead of my Franklin pocket binder (175 x 113 mm. or 6.8 x 4.5") of a few years. The leather cover has three slots for cards, a secretarial pocket, two tall pockets, a slot for a note pad, and an elastic pen loop. There is no closure. I can place my phone in the tall pocket and envelopes in the secretarial one. Because the Franklin pocket binder was large and thick for some occasions I wanted a thin light product with no rings. Surprisingly the tall pocket of the binder was too tight for my phone.

For next year I will draw my weekly layout on the sheets of a bound notebook for the cover. One reason I did not prefer a Filofax pocket binder even with a long back pocket is that my weekly format requires a tall sheet. The Filofax paper is too short. I like my soft cover of leather but not the fabric lining. It is significantly lighter and more streamlined.
